A Waster is a practice weapon made out of wood. It is also the name of a junkyard king, rigged out with baubles, a wooden sword and a crown, stranded on a hostile island and faced with the absurdity of his own existence. A man who spends all his energy building something he can't complete, but of which he is the sole master.
